Why a three-piece McConks SUP Paddle?
A three-piece paddle breaks down small enough to fit into your SUP bag. But what you gain in portability, you also gain in weight. Our three piece paddles are up to 200g heavier than one piece paddles. They’re also slightly lower performance, with a less regular flex due to more tube overlapping at intersections (1)

Really pleased with my new paddle and had excellent service from Andy, he even allowed me to pick it up from his house, as I wanted it for a next day paddle. The power transfer is very smooth, paddle well made and light, superb service and along with a great product!

I bought this paddle to replace my old McConks vario carbon paddle. The reason I went for this one was the innovative switchblade concept where you could either swap the blade for one of a different size or, if so inclined, put a blade at either end and use it kayak style. My vario had the bigger teardrop 98 blade and I wanted to try the sleeker 85 which is more surf orientated, but wanted to be able to swap back if i didn’t get in with. First thing that struck me was the clamps, the vario had the old push pin locking system which after using it in the fine sand in Goa, without washing it between surfs, got stuck a few times. No such trouble with the clamp system. Weight wise it felt a little lighter than the vario but that might just have been because of the smaller blade. Next I tested it in the surf. I was a bit apprehensive as the waves were 4-6ft and I was wary of the smaller blade not being able to propel me through the white water. I shouldn’t have worried as I felt no difference in power punching through the waves. As for surfing, the smaller blade made catching waves easier as well, as the lesser surface area meant more strokes and faster acceleration. The blade was easy to manoeuvre on the wave face but still had enough area to use as a support stroke when needed. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable paddle to surf with. If I were to be hyper critical I would say the only downside was that water does get in the shaft more than my old paddle, but even them I only really noticed it when I was walking up the beach after a 3 hour session and it felt slightly unbalanced. Also like to add that customer service I received at McConks was immense. Highly recommended.

As with everything Mcconks do, the quality of this item is fantastic. I have had this paddle for a few years now and went for the 93 option and it has tonnes of power behind it when you need it on the river or surf (but is also absolutely fine for more gentle paddles on the lakes). I started out with an old Nylon blade (can’t remember the brand, but trust me it was rubbish!) – and I could just feel all the power (and therefore energy) being lost on each stroke as the blade just bent with the water – not this blade though – rigid awesomeness (insert strongarm emoji here)!
The clasps that hold it all together are great too – they clamp down just right to make sure all stays where it should (I don’t really like those little buttons that are on some paddles as it allows for some play, so these are loads better). Handle comfortable in the hand, and who doesn’t love that carbon fiber look and feel!? Yeah, not sure what’s not to love to be fair! Oh and the bag is good too that keeps it protected and scratch free!

Nice paddle with a decent size blade, the only thing that could make it even better would be a shaped top section to prevent twisting.

Once set up it’s been a joy compared to my previous paddle!
