SUP playlist suggestions for all your paddling shenanigans.

SUP playlist suggestions may sound like we’re about to start banging on about serious paddle training. When in actual fact this one’s a bit more tongue in cheek and fun. What’s on your SUP playlist – amusing or otherwise. Let us know.

SUP surfing.

Maybe an obvious one bit when SUP surfing paddlers do spend quite a bit of time in the drink having wiped out. Bailing is par for the course. Everybody does, whether beginner or pro. So we think Wipeout by the Surfaris is quite apt.

Adventure paddling.

The adventure SUP paddlers among us love a bit of distance – even if only around the next bend. It’s all about the journey and discovering pastures (or waters new). Whether off on short sojourns or longer routes we’d suggest the Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) is a worthy contender for your SUP playlist.

Downwind SUP.

Bob Dylan’s Blowin’ in the Wind makes an appearance for those who love a bit of down breeze bump chasing. at points any paddler in this environment will feel like they’re just blowin’ in the wind so why not chuck it on the playlist to consciously fit it to your session?

SUP racing.

Anyone smashing the miles with a high cadence paddle rate needs the appropriate energetic tunes to keep the ante up. C&C Music Factory’s Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) is a club floor filler that’ll also work wonders for your motivation on the SUP racecourse.

SUP Polo.

Anybody who’s ever played SUP polo will appreciate the chaotic nature of wanging a ball round a stretch of water whilst trying to control your stand up paddle board and score goals against the opposition. Benny Hill’s theme tune is in perfect synch with what generally occurs during a spot of SUP polo.

Recreational SUP.

For most stand up paddlers it’s all about the recreational side of the sport. Paddling in fair weather atop breezeless waters with family and friends can be bliss. The well loved Summertime tune by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince is a classic any SUPer needs on their recreational SUP playlist.

Wing foiling.

If you subscribe to the flying above waterway of riding – and windy extension of SUP – then the breezy end of stand (wing foiling) si when you need to hit play on Lenny Kravitz’s stomper Fly Away.

Endurance paddling.

An arm of touring SUP, and sometimes SUP racing if you’re at an organised event, open ocean endurance paddling can be arduous to say the least. Albeit with big rewards at the finish. As such you’ll need something highly motivation in your ears to keep you going and something that suits your situation. Step forward The Who’s I Can See For Miles which’ll get you there!

WindSUP.

80s Sunday night viewing featured the bright and breezy theme tune from Howard’s Way in a lot of people’s lives. The fact the TV series is set in the world of sailing only lends synergy to any paddler choosing to stick a sail on their paddle board for some windSUP fun.

Night paddling.

Creeping through the gloom on your stand up paddle board is a unique experience. It has an air of mystery as you’re never sure what you’ll come across owing to it being dark. There’s something about Henry Mancini’s Pink Panther theme tune that just fits with night paddling. So it’d definitely worth slinging on the playlist.

Kiddy SUP.

If your kids are into paddling, and looking for a fitting soundtrack, you’ll need something bouncy and fun to make sure the mood stays elevated. Yes, we appreciate every parent will groan when Pink Fong’s Baby Shark starts blaring. But your offspring will love it no doubt!

There are plenty more songs suited to styles of SUP paddling that you may fancy adding to your own playlist. As we asked at the start of this article what would yours be?
