During the pandemic, we saw an explosion of interest in stand up paddle boards and kayaking gear. Unfortunately, many of those new recruits didn’t come from a watersports background. As such, they weren’t sure what to do with their spangly new craft. Ignorant to the fact it holds the perfect way to explore, discover and seek out new adventures on the water.
Here at McConks, we’ve always done our best to signpost what these sports can be for people. Kayaking and paddle boarding are perfect platforms to head off around the next river bend or headland. Grabbing your family and/or friends and seeking out new spots and quiet nooks and crannies is what these activities are all about. And if you want to push the envelope performance-wise you can do this as well.
Probably one of the simplest kayaking adventures to achieve is the paddling picnic. Fill up your cool bag with goodies. Don’t scrimp on the treats – this is a fun session after all – and load up your boat.

With an inflatable kayak, the world is literally your oyster. And if not, your backyard or put in fairly close to home. You’re free to roam, explore and investigate from the minute you launch. Some riders take this to the extreme where they’ll indulge in multi-day sojourns loaded with all the camping gear. Others don’t feel the need to push the envelope quite so much.
Adventure paddles can be enjoyed anywhere there’s water. And short durations are doable just as much as those lengthier trips. As long as you’re having fun, that’s the main thing. Did you know you can ride waves with your inflatable kayak? Mellow, smaller swells granted, surf nonetheless. Kayak surfing can be amazing fun if you’re happy to take a few dunkings. As invariably you will. But what’s better than a dip on a sunny beach day?
Taking off on a wave and feeling the ocean’s energy propel you forward is addictive. This is why surfers become lifelong devotees. Some kayakers also hear the call. They just choose to ride sat down with a paddle in hand. Whatever your view, kayaking in waves should be tried for sure!
Just as with kayak surfing white water river kayaking can be done with an inflatable McConks Go Paddle X boat. You’re not going to be charging big-volume rivers. More so it’ll be mellow flowing water. Which is fine as this can give riders the taste.
From there you may choose to take things further and become a bona fide white water paddler. Whichever route you choose to go, make sure you stay safe and don’t take on more than you or your group can handle.
