We’ve been working hard behind the scenes over the autumn and winter in our desire to always be improving and innovating. And, of course, when it’s quiet is the best time to be working on website and shop improvements and innovations, because we inevitably break something as we try to improve it!
So what’s new for McConks in ’22?
Quality assurance systems.
We’ve created a QA system that although is not quite up to blockchain levels of traceability, is as close as you can get for SUP. Every new board made in 2022 now has a unique serial number welded into the PVC under the rear handle. That serial number records the batch number and date of all of the raw materials and components and records the name of the board maker plus the name of the flood manager that signs off the QA and double pressure test. That means that if we ever have issues with a batch of raw materials that impacts SUP safety, we can perform a full recall easily.
Inflate, pressure test, reinflate.
Our boards are now inflated to 20PSI for a full 72 hours and then pressure tested at the end of the 72 hours. Any loss of pressure at the end of the test and the board is sent back to the production line to check seams and valve. Assuming there is no loss of pressure, each board is deflated and then reinflated to 15PSI just to ensure a fault in the raw Dropstitch material hasn’t caused a twist after the first inflation.
A helpdesk system that helps.
After a few false starts, we’ve finally configured our new helpdesk system so that we can link customer contacts to orders, and we can track orders through the distribution center pick and pack system all the way through to courier tracking details. Having all of the information in one place all our helpdesk operators to respond and resolve any issues more quickly.
New board designs and updated product descriptions.
We’ve refreshed our designs and standardised naming across our iSUPs – so all products are called Go ‘something’ length, making key information about the board clear in the product title.
We’re also in the process of producing a product description sheet for each of the boards that give key information about each board in a single, easy to read, one pager. In keeping with our ethos we have kept the marketing jargon to a minimum and have used real words rather than buzz words.

As for the new designs, we’ve again kept true to our principles and kept them simple and classic. We want people to buy boards that don’t go out of fashion and that look as good the day they were bought five years (and more) down the line.
Recommended by McConks maps.
We’re continuing to expand the McConks map of recommended instructors, schools and clubs, making it easy for you to find the very best spots to try out different paddle boards and get expertise from the people closest to the action. This is an ongoing work in progress. Inevitably we’ll end up dealing and working with more companies and individuals so will keep adding accordingly.
McConks are continually striving to better ourselves as a SUP brand and further come up with ways of helping you, the end consumer. Watch this space for further developments.
