Yep! It’s definitely happening… The weather that is. As the Met Office is now confirming: ‘Many parts of the southern half of the UK are likely to exceed 30°C and may even reach 34°C in some places, by Friday. The settled conditions are allowing temperatures to build day-on-day with the hottest temperatures expected to be reached by Friday for many.’
So whilst we appreciate the warmest area will be southern parts of the country it looks bang diddly on for a good many other locations as well. And with this comes the motivation to get out on your stand up paddle boarding kit. The water will most definitely be the place to be. It’ll be your coolest option. As one Met Office forecast says: ‘This is the first spell of hot weather this year and it is unusual for temperatures to exceed these values in June. Some areas may see warm nights with minimum temperatures expected to be in the high teens or even low 20°Cs overnight, especially in urban areas such as London.’
We know not everyone likes hot weather. And certainly not hot muggy nights. That said you can’t argue about how enticing conditions like this are for SUP. Just make sure you keep SUP safety in mind. Observing your key safety points will ensure you have as much fun in the sun as possible. See the checklist from our good friend SUP Lass Adventures for a SUP safety checklist.
And what about the longer range outlook? Here’s what’s being said: ‘A cold front will push across the country from the north as we go through the weekend bringing a return to average temperatures for most. However, there is some uncertainty around how quickly this front will move south and therefore how long the highest temperatures will remain. Areas in the far South East are currently expected to hold on to the warmth the longest, with highs of 29°C in East Sussex and Kent possible on Saturday.’ Check out the outlook vid for more below.
